Classification 5130(2), Building Automation or Energy Mgt Control Systems Install, Service & Repair
The WCIRB performed a comprehensive review of the classifications applicable to employers that install or repair a variety of electronic and low voltage systems, and proposed several new classifications based on the study findings. One of the new classifications is 5130(2),Building Automation or Energy Management Control Systems Installation, Service or Repair.
Classification 5130(2) applies to the installation, service or repair of programmable building automation or energy management control systems, including but not limited to those that monitor, control or automate heating, ventilation, air conditioning, blinds, lighting or other environmental factors within buildings. This classification also applies to the installation, service or repair of card activated or electronic access controls that are not integrated with security alarm, fire alarm or life safety systems. This classification includes the installation of low voltage cabling that is performed in connection with system installation, service or repair operations by the same employer. Classification 5130(2) is a construction/erection classification.
Until this change in the regulations, the installation of building automation systems has been classified as 5128, Instrument – professional or scientific – installation, service or repair – away from shop – not office machines. The WCIRB’s study found that building automation is a significant industry that develops sufficient data to support a statistically credible classification.
